CCU hosting summer RoboCamp for students

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina University is giving
rising 6th to  8th
graders a chance to dive into space with the 2013 RoboCamp June 17 until June
28.

The kids will jump into an imaginative space mission that
explores alien worlds using LEGO Mindstorm robotics as their guide. The
experience will cost $70 for each camper.

Conway at the Rivertown Wine-Around event, brought to you by Conway Downtown Alive.

The Rivertown Wine-Around event will be on Saturday, June 1
from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Locals and visitors alike are invited to try fabulous
wines and discover all that Downtown Conway has to offer.

Guests will pick up a Wine-Around map, and visit
participating businesses that are offering wine tasting's, and restaurants with
featured food pairings.

Conway High School wrestling fundraiser benefits team, Boston victims

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Conway High School's wrestling team is hosting the 2013 Tiger Race in Taste on Saturday May 18 to benefit their team and victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

This 5k run/walk event will be followed by breakfast from Eggs Up Grill. To participate in the 5k, the cost is $30. Breakfast will be $5 until the day of the race when the price increases to $10.

Minn. Twins draftee charged with burglary

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A Carolina Forest High alum that was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 2012 has been charged with burglary.

According to police reports, 19-year-old Erich Knab, 18-year-old Tyler Hinkle, 19-year-old James Clyburn and 19-year-old Randall Dornon were arrested and charged for the burglary of a Conway home.

The four men apparently went to the home to confront the person who lived there, but when they discovered he wasn't home, they opened an unlocked door and stole multiple items including an Xbox and an iPad.

739 CCU students cross stage at commencement ceremony

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina commencement speaker US Sen. Tim Scott gave advice to the 739 CCU students who walked across the stage at CCU's spring commencement ceremony Saturday morning.

"Sometimes in life, you must fail forward," Sen. Scott said. "Failure only becomes fatal when you quit. To maximize your potential, you have to exit your comfort zone."

Sen. Scott received the honorary degree Doctor of Public Service at the ceremony, along with SC Sen. Raymond Cleary III.

CCU reinstates men's track and field team

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - After making a few changes to the budget, Coastal Carolina University has decided to reinstate programs previously slated to be canceled, including the men's cross country and track and field program.

That decision was made at the quarterly Board of Trustees meeting on Friday, May 10. The trustees decided to reverse their decision to take $1 million from the budget and place it into savings.

That decision allowed President David DeCenzo and school administrators to preserve those men's sports programs, academic centers and other programs.

District offers social media guidelines for students

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - There's a big misconception when it comes to tweeting and posting on sites like Facebook.

Horry County School District spokeswoman, Teal Britton, says many students don't realize inappropriate comments and pictures they post on social media, could call for disciplinary action, even it was posted outside of school hours and off of school property.
